Malaysia Open Wakagoi championship 2006 Grand Champion. 63cm Maruyama Kohaku

Text by Written Luke Shori

I purchased a batch of splendid Kohaku's from Maruyama Koi Farm early last year aprox. 20 pieces if remember correctly. I can still remember that particular piece which liked immediately.

These koi were then shipped to SPKC and I decided to combine them with our mud pond program and offered them out for sale at RM6K. That means RM 6,000 including growing in our mud ponds with all the guarantees.

The sale went well and I was happy to note that nobody had purchased my favourite piece ie The Sandan. About 2 weeks before they were to be transfered to our mud ponds Raymond dropped by my center for the first time. He selected 2 pieces which were a inazuma and the infamous sandan. Since he decided to buy both and he was a first time buyer i let the sandan go for RM5,000.00

The fish was harvested during our grand opening and upon harvest I immediately noticed that the sandan had grown extremely well and was looking great (All the breeders concured). Since it's harvest the koi has been kept at our center to rebuild the Beni and was even entered in the National ZNA show. She did not place at all during that show which was no surprise to me due to the weak Hi plate. But since then she has been growing under our strict program , slowly rebuliding her hi plate. 2 weeks before the show she was starting to look great and her chances looked splendid but as more entries started to arrive I was getting worried. The night she was benched I was stunned. She looked incredible and at that moment I knew had a feeling she was going to do well.

Judging day I kept away from the show site and slept in. And when I finally heard the news I felt extremely happy. Hats off to Raymond Hew for his great foresight and patience for selecting this incredible Maruyama Kohaku. He has shown great perserverance to keeping his goals set and slowly working towards it. We worked on a program for his Koi and this piece is the first to flourish. I strongly believe that this Koi has more to come.

Tsubamoto San quoted "I brought in some of my better koi and thought that I would stand a good chance of winning but I did not.
I am surprised and happy to see the very high standard of competing Koi here. I shall be back here again with my even better Koi".
Tsubamoto San then presented a flower bouquet to Raymond Hew.
Note: Tsubamoto San is well-known koi hobbyists in Japan. He has won in numerous koi shows in Japan.

Raymond Hew showed true spirit of friendship by purchasing Tsubamoto San's sanke during the auction. This very high quality sanke was donated by Tsubamoto San for charity.
